Warranty
Designed Stairs warrants that its manufactured wood stair components (including treads, risers, stringers, and trim) will be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of 1 year from date of invoice, under normal use and conditions, as outlined in our Product Care Guide. To be eligible for a warranty claim, the Product must have been properly Finished, used for their intended purpose in a residential setting (unless specifically noted otherwise), and maintained according to the Product Care Guide.
The warranty is limited to the original contractor / consumer purchaser and covers:
- Splitting, cracking or delamination of wood
- Structural failure due to manufacturing defects
- Excessive warping or cupping beyond industry-accepted tolerances
- Improper adhesion or bonding failure of components installed by Designed Stairs
Designed Stairs warrants the structural integrity of all products, with the condition that framing or other existing members that the stairs adhere to are structurally sound and the exclusions listed below.
Conditions for Warranty
This warranty requires all guidelines in our Product Care Guide have been followed, including, but not limited to:
The product (on all sides) must be kept in a temperature and humidity-controlled environment for the entire lifespan of the product. Temperature must be maintained between 60-80° F. Humidity must be kept within the relative humidity (RH) range of 30-50%.
Product is properly finished/sealed on all sides, within 30 days of installation of the stair.
Material is delivered to site unfinished and must stay unfinished until installation is complete.
If parts are finished prior to installation, the warranty will be void.
The following are excluded from the warranty
- Wood is a natural product, natural character marks and color variations within components are typical and not considered a defect. Stain match or discoloration caused by sun or natural conditions is not considered a defect.
- Damage caused by neglect, misuse, including but not limited to, using the stair to hang from or support other products is not covered by this warranty, abuse, accidents, or alterations.
- Joint gaps up to 1/8”.
- Minor surface cracks or checking that do not affect the structural integrity of the wood.
- Structural issues due to connecting neighbors, such as framing.
- Weight/load bearing verification or certifications are not available due to the custom nature of our product. Any necessary testing can only be done after installation is complete. Testing is not the responsibility of Designed Stairs.
- Water damage or exposure to extreme environmental conditions.
- Normal expansion, contraction, or minor separations due to seasonal changes in temperature or humidity.
- Labor or installation costs, except as specified below.
- Commercial or industrial use unless otherwise specified in writing.
Remedy
If a defect covered by this warranty is found during the warranty period, Designed Stairs will, at its sole discretion:
This shall be the sole and exclusive remedy under this warranty. This warranty excludes incidental and consequential damages, and the total liability of Designed Stairs shall not exceed the original purchase price of the defective product.
Claim Procedure
For a warranty claim notify Designed Stairs in writing within 30 days of discovering the issue. As part of said claim, the Claimant may be asked to provide additional information, including, but not limited to: proof of purchase and description and photos of the alleged defect. Additionally, Designed Stairs must be provided access to inspect the product.
If after such inspection Designed Stairs determines there is a defect, it will repair or replace it, free of charge (material and labor), unfinished.
This warranty is limited to the cost of the product, and does not cover any neighboring products (such as drywall or flooring) as well as enhancements done to the product (such as finishing).
Any interpretations of this warranty shall be under Illinois law.
